"Pro Mundi Beneficio"
Among the secretive traditions of the Dark Angels, one of the most guarded is the Canal of Penance. Those who have strayed from purity — tainted by heretical thought, Warp influence, or failure of faith — may be granted a final chance at redemption. Rather than execution or eternal confinement, they are sent to serve among the Space Panamarines.
The Panamarines believe in the sanctity of reconnection — that what is broken may yet be reforged. Within their ranks, these Dark Angel penitents are reborn as Panamangel Intercessors: warriors who channel their guilt and corruption into relentless purpose - Pro Mundi Beneficio / For the Benefit of the World.
Their task is twofold — to redeem their souls through service, and to guard against the corruption that once claimed them. For the Panamangels, this path is not merely difficult — it is perilous. The taint of the Warp never truly fades, and the Panamangels must constantly resist the whispers that linger in the depths of their minds.
Failure in this vigilance can be catastrophic. If a Panamangel Intercessor succumbs once more to the Warp’s call, they do not become merely Fallen — they risk transformation into one of the Chaos Panamarines, a twisted mirror of all they once fought to reclaim. Thus, every battle for a Panamangel Intercessor is both external and internal, and every breach a test of soul and will.
After completing the Chaos Panamarine for my friend Carlos Espino, I knew the project was only halfway done. I had customized the Panamarine to show what happens after succumbing to the influence of Chaos—but what were they like before corruption set in? To fully realize the concept, I needed a heroic counterpart to complete the story.
Once again, I turned to McFarlane Toys’ Warhammer 40K Artist Proof series and found the perfect base: the Dark Angels Intercessor. Interestingly, the lore of the Dark Angels—warriors seeking redemption and absolution—aligned well with the narrative established for the Chaos Panamarine. Keeping with the same playful wordcraft as its chaotic predecessor, the Panamangel Intercessor was born.
The Panamangel Intercessor shares a few traits with its corrupted alter ego, most notably the color scheme inspired by the Panamanian flag. For this version, however, I wanted to take the design further by incorporating national symbols such as the Panamanian crest and the motto “Pro Mundi Beneficio” (“For the benefit of the world”). These kinds of heraldic details are common in Warhammer 40K’s Space Marine chapters, and I wanted to echo that tradition. Using laser-printed water-slide decals, I was able to achieve the look I envisioned.
